  • Push the radius for avatars. A radius of half the image width gives a perfect circle — the classic profile-photo look, and it stays sharp because the download is a lossless PNG.
  • Keep PNG for transparency. Rounded corners are only truly transparent in PNG (this tool's download format). If you convert to JPG later, the corners get filled with a solid color.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the tool always download a PNG?

Rounded corners make the image edges transparent outside the curve — and JPEG has no transparency, so rounded corners saved as JPG would show blocky filled corners instead. PNG keeps the rounded corners genuinely transparent, which is why this tool downloads PNG.

How do border width and corner radius work together?

The radius you set applies to the outer corners of the finished image. The inner corner (where the border meets your photo) uses the same radius minus the border width, so the border keeps an even thickness all the way around the curve.

Can I add rounded corners without a border, or a border without rounded corners?

Yes. Set the border width to 0 for rounded corners only, or set the corner radius to 0 for a square border only. Set both to 0 and the output is simply your original image.

Does adding a border reduce my image quality?

No. Your photo's pixels are never resampled or recompressed — the canvas just grows by twice the border width (e.g. 20 px border adds 40 px to width and height), and the result is saved as a lossless PNG.
