Why 1200×1800 pixels?
The classic 4×6 inch snapshot is printed at 300 DPI — the resolution labs expect. 4 inches × 300 = 1200 pixels, 6 inches × 300 = 1800 pixels. Send exactly that and the lab prints your photo edge-to-edge with zero scaling surprises.
The key detail is the 2:3 ratio. Phone photos are usually 3:4 or 16:9, so something has to give — “Crop to fill” trims the long edges cleanly instead of squishing faces or leaving white bars.
Tips
- Keep “Crop to fill” on. It trims edges to the exact 2:3 ratio — faces never look squished and there are no white bars.
- 300 DPI is the lab standard. 1200×1800 at 300 DPI prints a razor-sharp 4×6. Lower DPI prints look soft.
- JPEG for print labs. This tool saves photos as high-quality JPEG — the format every lab and kiosk accepts.
- Check faces near edges. Cropping trims the long sides — make sure no faces sit at the very edge before downloading.
- Portrait or landscape? This page pre-sets portrait 1200×1800. For a landscape 4×6, just swap the boxes to 1800×1200.
