The 35×45mm ICAO standard, explained
35×45mm is the ICAO international standard used by the UK, the EU/Schengen area and Australia for passports and visas. At standard print resolution (300 DPI), 35mm equals ~413 pixels and 45mm equals ~531 pixels — exactly what this page pre-sets.
One honest note: this tool resizes your photo to the correct dimensions — it does not change backgrounds, lighting or face positioning. The UK requires a plain light-grey or cream background and a neutral expression. Start with a straight-on, well-lit photo, crop it roughly to portrait framing, then resize here.
Tips
- Portrait framing first. Crop your photo to a vertical rectangle with head and shoulders before resizing — the tool sets dimensions, not composition.
- Plain light background. The UK wants plain light-grey or cream; Schengen wants plain light. This tool cannot replace backgrounds.
- Aspect lock stays off. Passport dimensions are exact — the lock is disabled so you get precisely 413×531 px.
- Not for the US or Canada. The US needs 2×2 inches (600×600 px) and Canada needs 50×70mm — different pages, different sizes.
- Print at 300 DPI actual size. Tell the print shop 35×45mm at actual size so the millimeter math holds.
