Why 1500×500 is the header standard
1500×500 is X’s official header specification: the ultra-wide 3:1 ratio that spans the top of your profile. Upload anything else and X crops it automatically — usually from the center, which is exactly where your logo or headline probably sits.
Resize to exactly 1500×500 here and your banner goes up pixel-perfect. Design around the profile-photo overlap: X places your circular avatar over the bottom-left of the header, so keep that corner free of text and logos.
Tips for headers that look pro
- Keep the bottom-left corner clear. Your circular profile photo covers the bottom-left of the header — keep logos and text in the center-right two-thirds.
- Crop to fill, never stretch. The default crop trims edges instead of squishing your design — or crop to 3:1 yourself first for full control over the composition.
- Design for the center band. On mobile, X crops headers tighter. Keep the essential message in the horizontal center so it survives every screen.
- High contrast beats fine detail. Headers display small on phones — bold shapes and big type read instantly; thin lines and tiny text vanish.
- JPG is enough. At 1500×500 a quality JPG looks perfect and uploads fast. Save PNG for graphics with razor-sharp text edges.
